Blog Post #8: Suffering

In what ways did the people you learned about during this unit suffer? What was their reaction to their suffering? Which story from the Acts of the Apostles did you find most inspiring and why? How have you experienced challenges in your own life and how have you dealt with them? Who are people that you can turn to in times of need and why?

The people that suffered this unit were the apostles. They were disciples and were now ready to becomes apostles and preach to others but they suffered through doing that. Some people disagreed with them and tried to imprison, beat, stone, and kill them. The apostles knew they were being threatened, yet they continued to preach because it was what God wanted them to do. Although they were martyred, I believe they were proud of the work they had done. They knew that their suffering was part of God’s plan to give them strength and to help them grow.

I found the story of “The Storm” most inspiring because of what Paul and his men had to go through. I feel that if I was stuck on a boat in the middle of a storm with barely any supplies, then I would be hopeless and just give up. However, Paul and his men continued to have faith and they survived. I also found it inspiring that the angel came to Paul and that he remained calm and faithful through it all. I would expect Paul to freak out and break down because he is the one that has to lead the other men. However, he ended up taking charge and they were all saved. I chose this image to show how Paul is calm and is seen as a leader which I respect.

Most of the challenges that I have gone through have been somewhat smaller. Some of the hardest challenges I had to deal with was the death of my grandma and my dog. It was really difficult for me because they had both died within a month of each other. It also did not make it better that they had died a few days after my birthday which made it even harder. However, I eventually got through it because death is a part of life and I knew that I could not do anything about it. All I could do is continue living my life and to always remember them. This image is of my dog that had passed away and although it was difficult, I got through it.

In times of need, I can turn to my family and friends to help. I know that they want the best for me so they would want to help me the best that they can. Since my parents are older, they have had more experiences and challenges in their life so I know that they would have a lot of helpful advice. I can turn to my friends since they go through some of the same struggles as me and can help. I can also turn towards my siblings because I am most comfortable talking to my sister about things. I feel that she is very wise and has a lot of helpful advice and she is my favorite sister.
