Blog Post #11: Bridge to Present

What did you find interesting about the history of the Sisters of Notre Dame? What is something that you heard from the Alumnae Panel that stuck with you and why? What does it mean to you to be a part of the Notre Dame Community? When you leave Notre Dame High School, what do you think are some values that will stay with you?

I found it interesting how St. Julie and François were able to start the Sisters of Notre Dame on their own without help from a bunch of other people. It shows that even one person can build a company or business. I also thought it was incredible that St. Julie was paralyzed for 22 years and was able to walk again after that. If I were her, I probably would have given up already because you cannot do much when you are paralyzed. The fact that François and St. Julie would give up all their money to build a free school for the kids that were not as fortunate is amazing. It takes a lot of courage to do that and shows the Sisters of Notre Dame was built on bravery and kindness. This image is a picture of St. Julie, who founded the Sisters of Notre Dame.

During the Alumnae Panel I heard one of them mention how we should make the most of our high school experience and try to really get involved. That really stuck out to me because when I first came here I did not like Notre Dame. I still struggle with it but the least I can do is try to make my high school experience decent. For example, last year I played on the lacrosse team which was cool. This year I applied to be on the CSF Board next year because it will look good on a college application. However, I also realized that I wanna do it because I want to get involved and I think it will be fun to plan Winter Formal and meet new people.

I don't really know what it means to be a part of the Notre Dame Community. I am not religious so it is difficult to feel apart of it since this is a catholic school. However, I think this community seems kind and hardworking. Everyone here works together and does community service which is great. All the students and also the staff are spirited, especially during Aquacades and I think that is unbelievable. I don't think I'll ever really consider myself apart of this community but the people in it are great people. This image is the mark and symbol of the Notre Dame Belmont Community.
