Blog Post #4: Prayer
What new things did you learn about prayer this unit? Can you see yourself implementing any new prayer practices? What were the main messages you got from The Case for Christ? What new things did you take away about yourself this unit?
This whole unit about prayer was completely new to me and I had never heard of any of these type of prayers before this unit. I learned about Lectio Divina, ACTS, and meditation. Lectio Divina consists of 4 steps where you read the text from the bible and you reflect on it and understand what it is saying. ACTS is where you show gratitude by adoration, contrition, thanksgiving, and supplication. Lastly, meditation is where you clear your mind, relax, and just pray. I also learned that there is no right or wrong way to pray. The image on the right is an example of an ACTS prayer.
I do not pray so I could not see myself doing any prayer practices at all. I am also not religious so I do not pray. However, I could see myself just meditating and taking time to relax, clear my mind, and not think about school or any problems or struggles I’m having. I have never tried meditating mostly because I think it just seems stupid and pointless. On the other hand, I think I should try it and find at least a few minutes of time to just lay down and try meditate. I could also just take even a second everyday to be grateful for and appreciate everything and everyone I have in my life.
I learned in the movie that sometimes faith, or just believing, or even just having hope can be good. You don’t always have to only believe in facts and the truth. For example, you can believe that you do good on a test or believe that everything happens for a reason. I also learned that you shouldn’t stop others from having faith or believing because it is their choice. Lastly, I saw the movie had a message about how things or at least some things happen for a reason. An example in the movie was when the nurse said she was sent to the restaurant by Jesus to save the child.

During this unit I learned that I should be less stressed and try to become more relaxed. When learning about meditation, I though about how I become very stressed thinking about school and other things but with meditation I can take a moment to get away from this stress. Recently, I've still been stressed about school, like I usually have ever since I started going to this high school. However, I've also been stressed about what will happen after high school and what I want to do during high school. I've learned that I should take some time to relax and slowly plan what I want to do. With meditation I can think about these problems of stress and clear my mind for just a little bit.
